Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism Management (L7)

This course is now being accredited by a leading UK awarding body and should be completed during this month. Any student registering prior to accreditation will be automatically registered with the awarding body as well as ATHE. The work and research involved with a postgraduate course is both invigorating and challenging but the rewards are there at the end. As well as joining the academic elite you will also be made a Fellow of the Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives.

The Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives Ltd is delighted to be able to offer an addition to our many courses now taken in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. We are based in Britain but we have centres throughout the world. If you want to know more about us go to the home page and click about us. This course will receive full accreditation by a UK awarding body well before the September starting date. Most information is provided below but you can always contact us should there be specific information you require.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism Management aims to provide students with a specialised understanding of the operational aspects of the international tourism industry. Students will need to undertake a research project on an agreed topic of no less than 10,000 words. This topic will need to be discussed with tutor or centres and agreed with ATHE. It should come from one of the topics below but not essential. For a general guide to the underlining syllabus click the link at the top.

Cost – If done directly with ATHE by distance learning the cost will be £420. This will include guidance throughout the research project. Terms available if required. (3 equal payments of £140)

Assessment: An original research project on any agreed topic of about 10,000 words. Grade for this Diploma will be decided by a team of academics with an industry input. We feel that this adds value to the qualification. The grades will be pass and distinction. Selecting a title is very important so advice and guidance will be available either from ATHE directly or an accredited centre.

Accreditation: This course is accredited by the Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives and its contents will be regularly reviewed by a committee comprising academics and members of the travel and tourism industry. Further accreditation is pending with a QCA Awarding body and this is expected to be ready during August. All students now enrolling will also be enrolled with the awarding body at that time for no extra cost.

Work element:  This will be optional and we have the resources of a major recruitment company to help organise this if required. It will be for a period of 6 to 9 months, possibly 12 months according to circumstances.

Timing and Certificate of Study: A certificate of study is given to all students when registering. If a work element is included the course should take two years but if not the course could be done in about a year.

How will you take the course?

Many of our students attend one of our centres located in several countries. You will then get the personal attention and be able to meet other students. However, that is not always possible and an excellent alternative will be to take the course directly with ATHE or one of our approved centres using online resources. Some of the advantages of this type of learning are -

  1. It is flexible and allows you to select the best time to study to suit your own circumstances. It also provides you the flexibility to remain in full-time employment. You can continue to earn while you learn. It is easy to combine home and work life with distance learning?
  2. You can study when and where it suits you best and you do not need to attend timetabled lectures or tutorials. You can also if need be take a study break or defer your studies for a short while.
  3. As a distance learning student, you will be registered as a student of the Association of Tourism and Hospitality Executives. On completion of the course you can become a full member.
  4. You can contact your local tutor for assistance and advice anytime. Any additional support is included in the normal cost of the programme.

What will happen?

As soon as you have made the decision to take the postgraduate course we will send you a username/password so you can start considering your title options. There are no time limits to complete the course. We have one of the most extensive online libraries in the world. However, students will also need to use other research methods. Selecting a title is very important. While some projects may sound attractive one has to consider the availability of secondary information. You will be able to discuss this with your tutor before making a decision. Of course it may be that you have always had a title in mind so this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

Your tutor whether at a centre or online will continually guide you through the course.

Delivery of course:

All the necessary material is available online and students are given a username and password to access the site. The material available covers virtually all courses but for the Postgraduate Diploma students would be expected to conduct their own research in addition.
